In every hero there has to be a loser right? Fresh from his Penang tour of Riwayat, The Actors Studio’s Director in-Residence Tung Jit Yang is back with a spanking new one-woman musical “Losertown” which is set to premiere from 7 to 17 December at klpac.
Award-winning and internationally touring stand-up comedian, performer, and musician Hannan Azlan together with theatre director, Tung Jit Yang take on the Hero(ine)’s Journey through “Losertown”.
“Losertown” is a devised piece that packs a punch drawing from varying musical genres, stand-up comedy, and musical theatre. It looks at what makes or breaks a hero.
As the youngest winner of the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition just barely a year after she started performing stand-up comedy (with music), Hannan Azlan is fast making a name for herself. Since then, she has gone on to perform at the Singapore Fringe, Comedy Manila, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on MTV Asia and Comedy Central Asia.
After taking the world, Hannan is ready to once again entertain Malaysian audiences. She will be backed by a trio of musicians in “Losertown” – Coebar Abel, Endee Ahmad, Ian Francis Khoo and Khairil Imran.
Synopsis
“Losertown” is a new and original musical piece of theatre devised by and featuring award-winning (HK International Comedy Festival) and internationally touring (Edinburgh Fringe) stand-up comedian, performer, and musician – Hannan Azlan. Directed by Tung Jit Yang, “Losertown” takes on the Hero(ine)’s Journey from The Call to Adventure to a tragi-comical stumble into the Belly of the Whale.
