Core Tropicana Korean Cuisine is situated on Tropicana Avenue, a beautiful and very affluent residential area approximately 17 KM west of KLCC. Right next to Tropicana Golf & Country Resort and directly opposite the residential serviced suites of Casa Tropicana.
There are also a number of other restaurants and bars in close proximity. Parking is in abundance in the car park of the adjoining shopping complex. On our arrival, we shot a short video of the surrounding area that you can see below.
Core Tropicana Korean Cuisine is a stylish new restaurant showcasing an extensive array of delightful Korean cuisine. This super clean, cosy restaurant would make anyone feel at home and is ideal for friends and family to enjoy some authentic Korean delicacies.
All fully air conditioned occupying 2 floors with dining areas on both, the interior and exterior is very pleasing on the eyes and really is delightful with lush green plantations neatly placed both inside and out. On entering the ground floor entrance the barbeque area in the centre of the dining area immediately catches your eye, which is surrounded by dining tables neatly decorated with attractive gold coloured tableware, including gold chopsticks!.
A kitchen area is hidden away towards the back and an open plan staircase leads you up to another dining area on the first floor. Very well decorated interior and lovingly designed with furnishings, decor and tableware that create a very clean and comfortable vibe.
They have a fantastic food menu packed with a variety of authentic Korean delicacies, serving a variety of beer, Korean rice wine and of course soft drinks aswell. You can indulge into dishes such as signature spicy pork ribs, bibim guksu, Korean pancakes, Jijimi Modum platter and more. Our Dining Experience
There were 3 of us dining today and we arrived around 6pm. Very impressed with the stylish, airy interior we were warmly welcomed by a waiter at the entrance who took us to the table of our choice. We ordered 5 dishes in total to share between the 3 of us. Before the main dishes came out we promptly received 4 side dishes, 2 of Kimchi and 2 of crispy chopped onions served in a light Vinaigrette.
First of the 5 dishes out was the Maewoon Pork Galbi (RM45) “Galbi” being the Korean word for “rib’ this dish consists of braised pork ribs and onions, served hot and glazed in a delicious sweet sauce. Very well presented with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and chopped red and green chili peppers.
Whilst we were tucking into these delicious ribs we could see the chefs preparing our next dish on the in-house barbeque directly opposite our table! This was the Jijimi Modum (RM48) which is an assorted platter of well known Korean delights, very well presented on a 2 foot long wooden platter. A larger Jijimi Modum platter can also be ordered at a cost of RM88. Jijimi is essentially Korean pancakes made with a variety of fillings such as seafood, meat and vegetables in oil with batter made from flour and eggs.
Next out was the Kimchi Jjigae (RM25) which is Korean kimchi soup served with a dish of rice and made with kimchi, tofu, zucchini, onions, spring onions and chili. I love this dish and always try and grab one whenever and wherever I can! I have to say that this is one of the best I have tasted. Smooth and full of flavour with a delightfully subtle tangy taste yet not at all salty like some I have tasted. Clearly made in-house from fresh ingredients and definitely not from a packet!
Then came the Bulgogi Ssam which was recommended by the chef and is not currently on their menu. This consists of a large helping of marinated thinly sliced sirloin steak and Korean bean paste resting on a bed of fresh crispy lettuce. Served on the side was chopped red chili peppers and a dish of fresh cucumber, carrots and more lettuce for wrapping. “Ssam” means “wrapped” in English and using the lettuce leaves you can make your own wrap filled with the steak, bean paste and vegetables to your own liking, delicious!
Last but not least was the Gang Daenjang Samgyup Ssam (RM38) with some more wrapping to be done here, only this time with pork belly! This dish consists of crispy pork belly and Korean bean paste resting on a bed of crispy lettuce leaves and chopped red chili peppers and a helping of rice.
If you are a fan of Korean food then I would highly recommend this very new restaurant. Serving delightfully fresh and authentic Korean delicacies, I am sure as the good words spread it will be a massive hit in the area very quickly. I would also like to give credit to the chef for his attention to detail, presentation and quality. As you will see from the menu the food is also reasonably priced especially considering the quality.
We were very impressed with the clean, crisp interior, decor and furnishings which give it a very homely and cosy feel. The friendly and attentive staff ensured that we had everything we needed.
Our favourite dish of the evening was definitely the Jijimi Modum (RM48) which comes out a winner not only because of the delicious pancakes but also on presentation.
