Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown has become a hub for cocktail bars of late, one of the newest to add to the list is the thriving & hip Rentak Bar.
Inspired by David Mancuso’s ‘The Loft’, his underground parties in 70’s NYC, Rentak’s tropical indoor garden gives a perfect backdrop to their idea of cool dance parties over a wide variety of music, enjoyed off-course with some handcrafted cocktails.
Rentak (Rhythm in Malay) specialise in cocktails infused with local and regional herbs.
The menu is musically inspired, you can choose from Signature Beats, Classic Beats, Birthday Beats and Happy Beats (which runs from 6pm – 10pm)
We begin with the Bo Diddley(RM38), an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and now rather tastier signature beat cocktail. The combination of lavender, elderflower, lemon and lime, complementing each other creating a rather refreshing Gin cocktail.
Moving on to the Fela(RM36), named after Fela Kuti, the fantastic Nigerian pioneer of the afrobeat music genre and also my favourite cocktail at Rentak. Rum, coconut milk and some pineapple juice, a natural threesome for a tropical cocktail, add some curry leaves, ginger and lime and we have a lovely South East Asia twist. This is a stunning little treat. I had to come back for seconds, or maybe it was thirds!
Four On The Floor(RM33) normally is a rhythmic pattern aimed to get you dancing. However, in Rentak bar, it’s a vodka-based cocktail that will get you dancing. Infused with Lychee, Calamansi and Selasih, you’ll be surprised at how well this works and gets those feet moving.
Rentak Bar does have your traditional cocktails as well, under the “classic beats” section of the menu, it does certainly cater to all cocktail enthusiasts.
Nothing beats a bar with a refreshing vibe and Rentak has that by the spade loads. If you are down Chinatown, I implore you to pop in, great cocktails and great tunes, what more can one ask for.
