Inspired by the owner’s many wanderings and travels around the globe and driven by a desire to create a haven of tranquility, what first started out as a personal project for her own family grew into what is now, Embun Luxury Villas.
Opened on October 1, 2018, the upmarket retreat boasts an enviable location as its eight villas sit atop a 300-metre-high hill overlooking lush forests and from where nearby destinations like Genting Highlands and Bukit Tinggi are visible.
In designing the resort, much thought was made to guarantee an intimate luxurious experience. The idea was to allow guests to escape the stress of daily life and reconnect with nature, and even if this escape was made with larger groups, each individual guest would still be able to claim their own space.
Embun Luxury Villas, named after the owner’s mother, is located about 45 mins away from the hectic pace of Kuala Lumpur city. Situated on a hill surrounded by lush forests and abundant local birdlife in the quaint area of Janda Baik known as Hilir Sum-Sum, it truly sets the scene for total relaxation. With only 8 villas at the resort, guests can remain assured of a truly intimate and wonderful experience.
Among the facilities available here are clubhouse, meeting and seminar space, multi purpose room and restaurant. The resort is also a great place for intimate weddings, honeymooners and family holidays.

Escaping the hustle and bustle of KL, we decided to stay for a night at Embun Luxury Villas. Greeted by the Resort Manager, Taufik, at the reception, he made us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we met him. Hopping on a buggy, we were driven to the peak and to our villa. Cars are discouraged from driving past the reception situated midway of the hill where the Clubhouse and villas are situated. This helps in reducing noise and air pollution for the guests. I wouldn’t want to drive my car up there anyway; it gets pretty steep.
On first sight, this jaw-dropping 3-bedroom Balinese style villa really felt like a home away from home. Furnished with Balinese furniture and art ranging from vases, sculptures to the comfortable sofas and loungers, the villa gives you no other option but to relax. Opening the patio doors, we could walk out on to the patio and infinity pool overlooking the lush forest, with greenery as far as the eye can see.
The tastefully decorated and expansive master room we stayed in has a 4-poster bed and lounge area, with sliding glass doors that open up directly to the infinity pool and the surrounding rain forest. All but one of the bathrooms at Embun Luxury Villas feature a walk-in rain shower, deep oval bath and double sink vanity tops. A distinctive added feature of our master bathroom is that it too allows direct access to the infinity pool and gardens.
One thing is for sure, if you miss nature while staying in KL, Embun Luxury Villas has got you covered. As night falls, the acoustics from the jungle starts to play, courtesy of the birds, crickets and other insects who call Janda Baik’s rainforest its home, the sounds slowly fading off as the night progresses. In the morning, chirping birds gently woke us up from sleep.
Perfect for a family vacation or for chilling with friends, all bedrooms are ensuite with extra washrooms in the living area. The kitchen and living room area is also well-sized, providing ample space for families and friends to relax and unwind.
Embun has a delightful spa menu to enhance the relaxation of your stay. We decided that a Balinese massage in the room would best suffice, where a massage table is set up in the room of your choice. Exactly the relaxing and therapeutic massage that we needed after the long week at work in the city. We both came out feeling refreshed and ready for dinner.
Embun has a clubhouse, where guests have the option of eating their meals if they decide to socialize outside the villa. For those who choose the dinner inclusive package, dinner is served as a 4-course meal inclusive of a drink. If you have any specific dietary requirements, just notify the team in advance.
On the menu for us this evening:
We kicked off dinner with Cream of Carrot and Cumin soup. Strong flavours whilst also being light and healthy.
Aromatic Asian salad that combines local flavours with jerky like beef. Fresh and summery, even more so coupled with the view of the forest.
Roasted Orange & Rosemary Chicken Leg or Pan-Fried Local Seabass Fillet
Roasted in a tasty Orange and Rosemary glaze, this melt in your mouth Chicken was perfectly cooked.
We were getting a bit full by this point, however tempting us even further was the homemade coconut Pannacotta. My go-to dessert, thankfully it did not disappoint.
We decided to have breakfast delivered to the villa in the morning so we could eat by the pool. The breakfast was a visual symphony.
Taufik mentioned after we ate, that they are looking at incorporating the “Floating Breakfast” experience which Bali has made famous of late.
Embun Luxury Villas surprised us in many ways, especially the delicious food.
If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation not that far out of the city, this is the place for you. 45 min drive, and you feel like you have been transported into the middle of the jungle without having to sacrifice any of the comforts of modern and luxurious amenities. The vibe is excellent and it is perfect for couples, families and events. Throughout our stay, the staffs’ service was great. We had a fantastic stay at Embun and will definitely be going back in the near future!
