Less than a year old, Joloko has already won accolades and after only a few hours here, we can definitely see why.

Winner of Best Restaurant Bar 2018, Joloko transforms you from the hustle and bustle of KL city centre to the tropical paradise of the Caribbean. Colourful, quirky and cool, this place has a mixed array of cocktails and tropical inspired foods that would delight anyone.

As soon as you walk in, you get the feeling that you have just been transported half way across the globe!

We had Walnut Hummus Spinach & Yoghurt with mezcal soaked raisins RM 20 and Guava Glazed Prawn Tostadas (with fava bean puree and pickled cabbage) RM 35, Pork carnitas RM 30, Goat ribs RM 45, Grilled barramundi with jerk spice and coconut sauce RM 30

The Guava Glazed Prawn Tostadas was my favourite dish of the evening, great flavours and just look at those colours.

Not many restaurants have goat ribs on the menu, so we just had to try this, the ribs were nice and tender. Excellent variation from the usual pork ribs you find around town.

Goat Ribs RM45

For main course we had Jamaican Jerk Chicken with mango relish and pickled cabbage RM 65.

Char-grilled chicken marinated in spices, what is not to like? The chicken was very flavourful and juicy, the portion is big and is for two sharing. The mango relish, adding an extra layer of flavouring to a great dish.

Finally, on to deserts and we opted for the dessert chilli cheesecake, the cheesecake was nice and dense. Chilli giving it a little bit of zing to finish it off.

Chilli Cheesecake RM 20

Over the course of the evening, we sampled a broad choice of the cocktail menu, Mongo Bongo RM 36, Dark & Stormy RM 38, Rhum Lovahs RM 40, Sunset Survival RM 42. All excellently made, pleasing on the eye and the palate.

Finally, Rick, the owner has a great fondness for Mezcal, served in a jicara cup, it is like tequila’s smokier, spicier cousin.

Mezcal

Joloko has risen fast to the top, as one of the best places in KL, absolutely no surprise there, with the selection of beers, cocktails and food. Reasonably priced, great décor and ambience, Joloko will be a go to spot for years to come. Thanks Rick, Kit and Chef TJ for a great evening!
