Gallo Wine Bar – Sri Petaling
A modern speakeasy style wine bar, tucked away on the first floor, blink and you might just miss the entrance. With a secret door, soft lighting and soothing jazz, Gallo Wine Bar has created a beautiful ambience, to enjoy their sensational menu and incredible wine from across the globe. Maybe it’s the mirrored ceiling or the lack of windows in the main room, but there is something undeniably cool about it. It really does feel like you’ve been transported into an elegant speakeasy without the tacky clichés. Truth be told, I’ve never liked Jazz… or red wine… so I was a little apprehensive. That said, they quickly converted to me into a fan of both! Open daily 4pm – 2am, with live music from 9:30pm Wednesday – Saturdays it’s the perfect setting for couples, catch-ups, groups or entertaining clients.
Naturally, they have an extensive wine list of over 300 varieties of wine to chose from. This is accompanied by a Tapas style menu in case you fancy some food during your visit. We had a beautiful bottle of Placido Chianti which complemented all of our food exceptionally well. Absolutely everything we sampled was exquisite and I would recommend it all!
First up was the Gallo Platter. A selection of nibbles consisting of smoked salmon with vodka cream, tomato bruschetta, Italian lamb sausage, a number of cheeses, smoked duck breast, and cecina ham rock melon surrounding a light salad. This is perfect if you want some light nibbles for the table to share.
The Lambor-Guinness, our personal favourite, features succulent lamb meatballs wrapped in smoked duck breast in a thick gravy, served with garlic bread. Words cannot describe how much I loved this. Definitely one to try on your next visit.
Next up was the Mushroom Threesome. Featuring three types mushroom with smoked duck breast, chopped tomatoes and onion rings accompanied by aioli. A beautiful blend of flavors and good portion size if you don’t want something too heavy but you’re still feeling peckish.
Following this was Gallo’s 6-inch Hawaiian Pizza, possibly the lightest pizza I’ve eaten with a lovely thin crust.
Although Gallo Wine Bar don’t offer desserts, they do have a complimentary Choco Bomb available for Birthdays. I won’t ruin the surprise of what’s inside but I will say it was just as delicious as the rest of their sensational menu!
Perhaps the pièce de résistance of our meal was the Parmesan Cheese Crackers. The 6-piece tower of fine parmesan sheets with strawberries, sliced apple and a honey dip was delicious. A brilliant light snack, which almost doubles as a dessert when dipped in the honey. It’s the perfect nibble whether you fancy something sweet or savoury.
If you’re not a wine connoisseur, there’s no need to panic, as the staff are happy to offer recommendations that compliment either your food, or your palette. If you’re looking for a little more privacy, there are also a number of wood panelled private rooms, perfect for birthdays and private events. In keeping with the décor, they additionally feature TV’s, black and white photographs and a draped window.
I would definitely recommend a visit Gallo Wine Bar, it’s almost payday so treat yourself! The food and wine is incredible and it provides the perfect atmosphere to relax, socialise and even network in. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, without being overbearing, which can be so hard to find nowadays! You are paying for an all round experience, as this is definitely a unique venue with plenty to offer. Some items are slightly pricer than your average restaurant, but considering the amazing quality and ambience, I’d say its 100% worth it. Wines range from less than 100RP to over 5000RP, so there is plenty of options. We visited the Gallo Wine Bar in Sri Petaling, but they do have a smaller venue in Taman Desa, which I am sure is just as good.
