Whenever the average Malaysian hears the words “Putrajaya” and “Cyberjaya”, their minds quickly conjure up something related to work. Putrajaya was established in 1995 with the purpose of being the federal administrative centre of the country while Cyberjaya was opened two years later as a key part of Malaysia’s Multimedia Super Corridor.

Therefore, it isn’t surprising that most people don’t associate the two neighbouring cities with leisure activities. However, this is not essentially true.

Today, we are listing down some activities that will ensure you have an enjoyable time here without burning a deep hole in your pocket.

So here are 6 activities in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya that you will enjoy.

1.Experience Putrajaya’s heart, a place of art and grandeur

Dataran Putrajaya in Presint 3 has always been acknowledged as the heart of Putrajaya. This is not only the home to some of Malaysia’s most prominent government agencies but also the area which encapsulates stunning architectural structures.

Most of the picturesque photos of Putrajaya that you see on social media are located here. The famous Putrajaya Mosque and Prime Minister’s Office at the edge of the area are two extremely popular tourist attractions. The Palace of Justice, the Putrajaya Corporation building, and the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Iron Mosque located nearby also attract huge crowds.

The icing on the cake, of course, is the mesmerising Putrajaya Lake and its two equally impressive bridges. You haven’t truly experienced Putrajaya without setting your feet at Dataran Putrajaya!

2.Try some rock climbing at the Putrjaya Challenge Park

For those of you who would love to break out some sweat, we suggest you head to the Putrajaya Challenge Park which is located in Presint 5. The facility houses the largest indoor climbing gym in Southeast Asia and caters to all levels of climbers, from amateur beginners to the more advanced.

Entrance fee for the indoor Rock Climbing Wall complex is RM6 for adults and RM3 for students. However, additional charges apply for climbing rope, shoes, harness, and belay service.

You can also spend some time skateboarding or on a BMX at the Skate Park and Thrill Park. Entrances to these two facilities are free. The Putrajaya Challenge park is open 10am to 8pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and from 10am to 10pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

3.Take a Putrajaya cruise to drive away the blues

Putrajaya was designed with dazzling architecture and landscape in mind and running through the heart of this city is the alluring Putrajaya Lake. Although cruise rides are often viewed as a luxury activity, Cruise Tasik Putrajaya offers trips at rates as low as RM15!

One admission price covers about everything on the trip including meals. You get to soak up the magical atmosphere of the city by foraying across the enchanting 650 hectares of the Putrajaya Lake. There is a variety of over 20 different packages to choose from — such as sightseeing, educational tours, romantic affairs, private dining, and other fun activities.

4.Learn horse riding at the Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya

Horse riding is not just a terrific activity to boost your health, it’s a great way to spend your time as well. If you to experience this beautiful sport with these wonderful creatures, make sure to head to the Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya.

Here, a fun joyride around their picturesque track will only cost RM10 for children and RM15 for adults. There are other options as well, such as horse carriage rides and stable tours. Of course, if you want to take your horse riding experience up another notch, you can choose to take their riding lessons. Catering to introductory, beginner, and intermediate levels, the rates for the eight-session course starts from RM350.

5.Reconnect with nature at the Putrajaya Botanical Garden

The Putrajaya Botanical Garden, which spans across 92 hectares, is the largest botanical garden in Malaysia. Currently, it is divided into three sections – flowers, ornamental plants, and preservation/research purposes.

Home to over 700 species of plants, the park also provides bicycle rentals and tram services for you to explore the area. Also housed in the park is Astaka Morocco, which is a beautiful pavilion inspired by Moroccan architecture and landscapes. So, from the serene surroundings of greenery, you will enter an area which is normally associated with deserts. You won’t mind this contrast as it is a pleasant and unique sight!

6.Jog, cycle or enjoy a lovely picnic at the Cyberjaya Lake Gardens

Spread across 400 acres, the wonderful Cyberjaya Lake Gardens is often referred to as the ‘green lung’ of this IT-themed city. There are host of recreational activities that you can enjoy here — jogging, cycling and fishing being the some of the most prominent ones.

In fact, the sprawling lakeside park has excellent tracks for jogging and cycling, and also attracts shutterbugs for those exquisite shots of sunrise and sunsets.

Other recreational facilities include a mini park, a Sports Arena (with a basketball court, tennis court, badminton courts, football field, futsal courts) and the Cyberjaya Community Club which has both indoor and outdoor facilities like go-karting, gymnasium, squash courts, table tennis courts and a golf driving range among others. The Lake Gardens is also a perfect spot for family picnics and get togethers.
