A research project of Carmen Rodina in “art of global dance’ and Orang Orang Drum Theatre in ‘ drum theatre’ have met in March of 2016 after an impromptu trip of Carmen to Malaysia. This is where ‘ The Dialogue’ begin between this two art form: art of global dance and drum theatre. A continuous conversation between both artist with the language of rhythm and movement stimulate the development of this exchange program. Thanks to the support of Goethe Institute had brought the exchange program into a public performance.
‘The Dialogue’ is a multidiscipline art performance which include dance, theatre, and music. What if a drummer dance and what if a dancer play drum? How the dialogue should begin when both of us are using different language to express ourselves? By learning from each other, by imitating others, we try to understand how people connect together before words.
Breaking down the border line between musician and dancer, the show is not only global dance (influence of afro contemporary dance, body theatre, yoga, etc.) accompany with Orang Orang Drum Theatre original composition live music, but also having a common space where this two crude art form emerge our modern language.
